About Jill McAlister
Jill is a caring and experienced Clinical Psychologist, who is passionate about empowering women to overcome difficulties and experience greater happiness and psychological well-being. She has many years' experience supporting women to experience a greater sense of wholeness, healing and growth at all stages of life. Having studied a broad range of types of therapies, Jill is able to support women holistically and in an integrated way.
Jill supports women of all ages, including young women who are still developing their sense of self and confidence in the world, women who are experiencing challenges at work or in relationships, as well as women who are healing past trauma, making major life transitions or seeking to develop a deeper self-awareness. Jill also supports women to make a smooth transition to motherhood and overcome pre and postnatal depression or anxiety and has given talks at Early Childhood centres and local meetings of the Australian Breastfeeding Association on the "Transition to Motherhood". Jill also works for the Gidget Foundation, which is a not for profit organisation that provides assessment, psychological support and counselling for women experiencing difficulties adjusting to parenthood and perinatal depression and/or anxiety. Jill has had her own private practice for over 13 years and she has a 9-year old son.
Jill is a compassionate and caring practitioner who uses an integrative approach incorporating Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-Based Therapies and Transpersonal Psychology. Jill has completed additional training for PTSD, including Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) level 1 training. Jill is trained in Parent-Child Intervention including being a CIRCLE OF SECURITY™ Registered Parent Educator and qualified to teach the CIRCLE OF SECURITY™ Parenting Program.
Jill is a Clinical Psychologist registered under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). She has a Bachelor of Science (Psychology) with first class honours from the University of NSW and a Master of Clinical Psychology from Macquarie University. Jill also has a Graduate Certificate in Adult Career Development from Wollongong University and is a full member of the Australian Psychological Society. As part of her Masters training, Jill worked at the Centre for Emotional Health at Macquarie University, providing assessment and treatment to children with anxiety and at Northside Private Hospital providing individual and group therapy to patients with mood disorders. Prior to working in private practice, Jill worked in business as a Consulting and EAP Psychologist, providing counselling to individuals and couples, outplacement counselling, career coaching and psychometric assessment. She has also facilitated group workshops on meditation, career development, job search skills, stress management, communication skills and leadership.
